DROOMWERK by JOHANNEKE PROCEE
During most of our history a break during the day was considered as important as a nights rest. Taking a nap is an instrument that is as old as time itself. In the last couple of decades one of our most valuable natural resources almost disappeared: sleep
Too little sleep has a bad influence on our daily work. Productivity, alertness and concentration decrease. In the worst case this leads to sickness and work incapabilities. Nowadays time is money and sleeping ,especially during daytime, is seen as a waste of money.
Johanneke Procee has wanted to reinstate the much needed rest and nap breaks. It has long since been proven that a powernap can do wonders. It improves concentration and productivity and is much healthier than all the coffee people are drinking to stay awake. She has designed ‘Droomwerk’ (Dreamwork), a lounge seat for the office. Since it is not accustomed to take a nap in our culture, Johanneke Procee investigated the places were we do sleep during the day. For example, the train, the bus, the airplane, the beach and even children in their prams. These places inspired her to design Droomwerk. It can be associated with a deckchair, a pram or a business class chair in an airplane. Droomwerk is an approachable and comfortable piece of furniture where people can take a power nap, retreat before a meeting, do some reading, or to have a moment to themselves. Use the coat hanger for your jacket and have a seat. Lose yourself to your thoughts for fifteen minutes. It will ease the burden of your day-to-day worries.
Johanneke thinks the way you function is unconsciously related to the products and materials you are surrounded with. They can make us feel at home. Her design is all made from natural materials: yellow popular for the frame and leather is used for the cushions. On the inside the cover is furnished with felt to absorb sound and noises. A wool fabric is used for the outside.
